The perks and downfalls of eco-conscious fashion

Keeping up with the trends has always been the hallmark of every fashionista. Satisfying your closet cravings is no easy task, and it requires a lot of shopping! Unfortunately, a few years down the line, most of the pieces that were once considered ‘fashionable’ become outdated and you will find yourself scurrying to the nearest sale in an effort to update your wardrobe.   This is why we are now witnessing an upsurge in the movement of sustainable fashion. The eco-conscious or “green” consumer dedicates their time to finding timeless pieces that are durable and high in quality. This means less clutter in your closet and much more money to spend on meaningful experiences. However, the best part about sustainable fashion is the feeling of doing something for the planet. Most of your old clothes end up in landfills and around 8,000 chemicals are used to turn raw materials into textiles. According to Earth Pledge, 25% of the world’s pesticides are used to grow non-organic cotton. ...

Vehicle identification and categorization using AI-powered real time video analytics

Human vision is a powerful tool that allows us to accurately perceive the world around us. The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence has given us the ability to develop something just as powerful- computer vision. This scientific field encompasses the superior level of understanding that computers use to make sense of digital images or videos.  The ground-breaking discoveries in the fields of deep learning and neural networks have allowed computer vision to reach a point where it can surpass humans when it comes to identifying and categorizing objects. We can now use advanced video analytics systems powered by artificial intelligence to scan through scores of vehicle identification numbers and categorize them in real time. AI Video analytics can be a massive boon in vehicle identification by carrying out tasks such as: ·        Image categorization: Using AI to filter through a variety of predetermined categories (car, bus, truck, bike...

Is God real?

Is God real? The earliest evidence of a religious school of thought would date back to the paleolithic age and is based on the ritual treatment of the dead. Academics suggest that ritual burials represent an awareness of life and death and a possible belief in afterlife, which point towards the possibility of prehistoric religion. As time progressed, we have seen the advent of countless religions that were instrumental in shaping the minds of our ancestors. From the practice of bear worship in North Eurasian ethnic religions to the more recent Christian practice of self flagellation in the name of atonement of one’s sins, the evidence of how religion has moralized brutal and barbaric rituals in the name of God is staggering. In his volume, ‘The Future of an Illusion’, Freud states that religion consists ‘of certain dogmas, assertions about facts and conditions of external (or internal) reality which tell us something that one has not oneself discov...

Depression: A short note

“I’ve always considered myself to be a strong person, so overcoming depression shouldn’t have been such a big deal to me. However, when I actually went through it, I miraculously transformed into a helpless shell of the person I once used to be. I noticed a sudden decline in my appetite, and I would feel these instant pangs of nausea every time I tried to eat. Getting out of bed seemed like a Herculean task. I was too exhausted to perform even the most mundane everyday activities. I didn’t want to talk to anyone, or see them. People terrified me to a point where I would feel waves of panic gush over me every time someone came near. My dark, dingy room was where I found solace, and getting out of it seemed impossible. Social isolation seemed like the perfect answer to all my problems. I wasn’t myself. I wanted to change, but I didn’t know how. I wasn’t comfortable with telling people about the way I was feeling because I knew they would judge me. My world was completely devoid...

Bloodied, writhing bodies are exhumed from rubble. As people watch their metropolis crumble.

Nightly Murders

A long awaited badinage finally meets its end, as forced strains of music flood the night. Insignificant pearls of white light shine down upon his face; Concealing yet revealing. Deafening whispers of anguish, begging to be heard plague the mind of the guilty. As ominously red drops stain the downy white snow Terrifying yet fascinating. A hand raises in triumph, as shrieks of crazed laughter pierce the air. Because, how can one stay sane? When one has done the unthinkable.
